"Young readers will fall head over heels for brave and lovable Ollie. In a world where it's hard to feel accepted for who we are, Ollie shows us just what to do!"
- Mollie Gee
I am honored such an accomplished and respected professional, kind and compassionate person, felt compelled to write these thoughtfully chosen words for the back cover of Ollie the Owllama. I am so very thankful to have this special lady in my life!
Mollie Gee, owner of The Nest Counseling, has so many professional accreditations, including Registered Nurse and Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and National Certified Counselor. But she is so much more than those earned and deserved distinguished titles. Friend, wife and mother of two are among her most treasured roles.
With all that said, I am pleased to introduce you to amazing Mollie!
What is your favorite book (aside from Ollie the Owllama, of course!)?
Gosh, that is such a hard question. I really don’t have a favorite book, as crazy as that sounds. I love so many! As you can imagine, I love any book about mental health, mindfulness and/or spirituality (think mind, body and soul connection), but I also love historical fiction and any book that makes me crave it or changes the way I think, feel and behave. I just finished House at Riverton by Kate Morton and The Power by Naomi Alderman. Currently, I am reading The Invitation by Ainslie MacCleod, Sacred Contracts by Caroline Myss and The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. These three are pretty deep and not for everyone, but I am enjoying them. Oh, and, of course, anything by Brene Brown is always my jam.
What makes you love reading?
I love the vast variety of thoughts and emotions that are spontaneously created when I read. I always grow a little more and become a bit more whole with every book – there is really nothing better.
What is your favorite book genre and why?
Ah, these questions are so hard. I love them all, but fiction, historical fiction and nonfiction are probably my top three.
What do you like to do aside from reading?
I love being a therapist and a mom to my two littles. I also love cooking, meditating, writing, being an advocate for women, and spending time in nature.
What do you do for a living, and what is your favorite part of what you do?
I am a “retired” pediatric nurse practitioner and a licensed professional counselor associate. Being a therapist has brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined. It is an honor and privilege to provide a safe and accepting space for women to share their deepest thoughts and feelings and walk with them as they find their courage and authentic voice. Witnessing their “A-ha” moments, their incredible self-discovery and watching them start living the life they want is my favorite part.
What is one thing not many people know about you?
Gosh, I’m pretty open. I think most people know a lot about me, but I’ll say that most people are surprised when I tell them I’m an introvert. I, on the other hand, am always shocked they’re surprised. I feel like my social anxiety and quiet nature is a dead giveaway to my “introvert-ness.”
Ok, just for fun, what is your favorite food?
Artichokes – boiled with my family’s “secret” sauce that has been handed down for generations. I can’t get enough! And cake – all cake, except red velvet.
I think I need some of those artichokes in my life - Yum! I hope you enjoyed learning about Mollie! For more information, visit www.thenestcounseling.com
